| | A Dutch licence plate is assigned for lifetime to a car and reveals its date of first registration. A 1962 model R4 has the letters GG, GK, GP, GT, GX, GP, GT, GX, HD, HG, HK, HP, HT, HX, JD, JG, JK, or JP, followed by two pairs of two numbers. This lifetime hardly ever lasted more than 10 years due to the salt spread on the roads in winter time. |

This RENAULT 4L from januari 1962, purchased August 2013, is believed to be the oldest R4 originally sold in the Netherlands and still remaining, only followed by a late 1965 one. In case you know an earlier one still existing, please feel free to drop me a note. |
